Get Hoodwink'd. →
So you’ve heard me talk about Bamboozle before… here’s a new update for you. Last year they held a “Hoodwink” festival the day before Bamboozle, where bands played under fake names which slowly became uncovered closer and closer to the show. This year, organizers are actually telling us who’s playing… but as a special twist, every band will be covering...

MY INTERVIEW w/ Automatic Loveletter!
This isn't going on the official WTBU Blog until later, so here it is for you guys... the FULL THING! It might be a little out-dated... this thing was done back in November, or December. So long ago, I can't remember! But this interview is with Juliet Simms, lead singer of Automatic Loveletter! (Yes, you might know her as the female vocalist on All Time Low's "Remembering Sunday" too.)
This summer, you were one of the acts of the Warped Tour. How was that experience? With so many other bands playing, who were you excited to see? What other bands did you guys hang out with?: Well first off the experience was an experience of a life time..everyday you get to play music, hang with musicians you look up to, meet and hang with fans, and all around have a blast! Its like summer camp for rockstars..how could it not be insanely fun?!
I was stoked to see our good friends All Time Low, Between The Trees, A Cursive Memory, The Audidtion and From First to Last..and then getting to see Jack's Mannequin was AMAZING! I always enjoyed catching Mayday Parade, We The Kings and All That Remains set..i think the coolest thing about warped is getting to watch bands you love and then hangout after with them..
We hungout with all the above, i got to chill with Tom from Angels and Airwaves=) that was pretty tight haha..i dont think ive ever laughed so hard..that guy is FUNNY! Hungout with Katy Perry..i love her..I ate lunch with Josh Freeze oneday and that was surreal lol..
How is touring in general? What are the positives and negatives of life on the road? What would you like fans to bring you when they come to your shows?: I LOVE touring so much!! but it does have its ups and downs..for instance I love being in the van for long periods of time, but I when its time to pee the hassle of pulling over kind of gets annoying haha or the fact that you’re having to constantly lug your luggage in and out of hotels and into venues, unpacking repacking etc..gets to be tiresome..but on the flip side I get to hangout with my best friends everyday..play music everynight and do what I love..so it pretty much makes up for anything that’s not entirely ideal..
Fans have brought us some very cool things in the past.. a few of my fave has been sweet mint orbit gum, socks, bracelets they make, dvds, blankets, and candy...one time i even got a whole case of miso ginger salad dressing haha that was cool..oooh and spitz pumpkin seeds lol.. but the best is all the artwork and paintings and stuff that people actually take the time to make.
You guys are currently touring with Secondhand Serenade, Cute Is What We Aim For, and A Rocket To The Moon. How did you end up on this tour? What expectations did you guys have before the tour started? Have they been met? Any crazy tour moments you’d like to share?: Well, earlier this year we toured with SHS and John and the band became BEST friends with us and we all wanted to tour again so that was a big part of it..and last year during 07 warped I stayed on Cute's bus for about 4 days while I did acoustic appearances at the 'to write love on her arms' tent and the 'absolute punk' tent, so i became friends with them then..but how it really happened is John from SHS called me one night on warped tour and he said that a GREAT tour was being put together for the winter and would i be interested? i dont think he even finished asking the question before i was like "uh yes!" haha Our Expectations were packed rooms, crazy crowds, awesome venues and all around good times..and YES every expectation has been met..above and beyond:) So far my favorite/crazy moments of the tour have been when Shaant from Cute wore my pink Long John Onesie out on stage during SHS set..he ran across the stage ballet dancing the whole time..and this was in front of like 2000 kids...soooooo funny! Another moment was the first time we played a House Of Blues the crowd was so insane that at the end of our set I decided to jump into the crowd and crowd surf and it was probably the funnest thing I’ve ever done! Also every niggt Shaant brings Nick (ARRTTM singer) and i out on stage for the last song and we sing and then jump down into the crowd! And its pretty frikkin crazy evertime..Last night in Chicago the crowd was so intense the barrier almost broke haha..scary
At many dates you play the song “Let It Ride” (One of my personal favorites). What is the song about? Where will fans be able to hear/download the song?: First off Thank you!:) and the song is about having only one night with someone thats leaving , and its really kind of a sad song because its me asking him to take me away with him but because of the different lives we live, it could never happen..true story..the song will be on our full length coming out in May..but im sure we'll be putting it up for peoples ear pleasures soon enough:]
Juliet, many of All Time Low’s fans recognize you as the female guest vocalist on “Remembering Sunday.” You worked with ATL’s Alex Gaskarth again for a cover of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” with 3OH!3 and it recently leaked onto the internet. How did that project come about?: Working with ATL was sooo fun! The boys are all so endearing, chill and really remarkable. When i got asked to sing on the song i was super flattered! and then upon hearing the song i was even more stoked..yes..i am a fan of Remembering Sunday.. i think the song is amazing:)
we decided to do the Wham! cover for fun..i was up in Maryland already for Remembering Sunday, so we were like eh? why not?..so we recorded it and then a few weeks later, Squire had 3Oh!3 come in and lay down some parts..i loved what they did so much..those boys are oober talented as well!
In other interviews, you have mentioned a full-length album. How is the progress on that? Who have you been working with or plan to work with? What can fans expect from it?: Like i said the record is coming out in May =D its actually almost completely done..i have one more song to lay vocals down on and then its done! yay! Ive been working with Curt Schneider for half of it and Matt Squire did the other half..Mix n' up..ya know?..like an omelet with everything in it and a chocolate banana shake on the side...and then for dessert oreo cookies with peanut butter and milk..mmmm
thats pretty much what fans can expect from it...
What are your plans for the upcoming New Year? Are you currently booked for any other tours/festivals (cough cough… Bamboozle… cough cough)?: hahaha we actually find out about Bamboozle and Warped in the next few days lol..but we do start out on our headlining tour Jan 15th! Direct support is are good friends A Cursive Memory..and 2 more unannounced bands;)
Is there anything else you’d like to tell WTBU listeners/fans?: yes..i dont like you…..i love you:) haha
The headlining tour Juliet was talking about is A.LL.'s "Almost Had A Tour Bus" Tour!
It rolls through Harper's Ferry in Allston on Wednesday, February 11. A Cursive Memory, The Friday Night Boys, and The Appreciation Post will also be performing.
